Scanner Frequencies and Codes

Here are some frequencies that may be of interest to monitors in or around Cleburne County, Alabama, including Heflin (zip code 36264) and Ranburne (zip code 36273). Some of these frequencies may also originate in Calhoun County, Alabama, Carroll County, Georgia, and other neighboring areas.

Public Service

Many agencies have moved to the digital 800Mhz APCO system which you will not be able to monitor with a regular VHF/UHF scanner. Some are also using Nextel or Southern Linc for sensitive information and in locations where two-way radio communications are not possible. Most of the frequencies listed below should still be in use to some degree. Feel free to email corrections, updates or suggestions.

Normally, it is only necessary to monitor the repeater output frequency unless the operator is using direct communications or "talkaround." Some radios have been converted to FM Narrow Band and are not working well. Signal is degraded and does not have the same range as before.
